Additional information

This is the first report on the use of ultra-band gap UV LEDs as pulsed, energy efficient light source for photocatalytic water treatment. More than a four-fold increase in photonic efficiency has been observed through pulsed operation of the LEDs compared to continuous operation. The LED control system reported here provides a greater level of control on the precise period and irradiation intensity that can be achieved compared to conventional irradiation sources. The greater efficiency achieve for the pollutant decomposition under the pulsed conditions reported here provides great scope in for implantation in scaled up photocatalytic reactors.
