Additional information

Poly-high internal phase emulsions (polyHIPEs) are a class of ultra-high porosity, highly interconnected, microporous networks used in numerous applications such as catalyst support, scaffolds for tissue engineering and 3D cell culture. This paper highlights for the first time a straightforward route to make hierarchically structured materials from polyHIPES, where the microporosity is dictated by the HIPE formulation, but the macroscopic structure (>100 µm) is built by stereolithography. This research enables production of complex bespoke 3D structures of polyHIPEs, essential for the use of these materials in implants. These recent results have already been confirmed by leading international groups (DOI:10.1002/marc.201300016).
