Additional information

We engineered a novel, nanomagnetic system capable of manipulating ultra-cold atoms. A major outcome was in demonstrating that the magnetic system could be reconfigured in-situ to tune the magnet-atom interactions, a worldwide first. The work opens new avenues of investigation into combining nanomagnetic engineering and cold-atom physics to create entirely new platforms for quantum computation and sensing. This was recognised with an award for best poster in session at the internationally leading Magnetism and Magnetic Materials conference, 2011.
