Additional information

A substantial number of steel producers utilise Steckel rolling mills for the finishing (and reversing) deformation passes at elevated temperatures. Working with Outokumpu Stainless, this work describes the results from novel laboratory Steckel rolling simulations of stainless steel where both the deformation conditions and atmospheric conditions were replicated. The work comprehensively defines the complex microstructural evaluation at the surface as a function of process conditions. This work was used by Outokumpu to achieve better control of surface condition, which is crucial for stainless steel sheet (andy.backhouse@outokumpu.com).
