This paper demonstrated that ferroelastic domains can extend beyond grain boundaries, opening up the possibility of making complex electronic devices from simple polycrystalline materials. This article led to GBP175k of funding from a total of GBP350k from BP for NanoOil project, RG65970, which started in March 2012, and material from this paper formed part of an invited talk at the Petrochemicals Forum in KACST, Riyadh in September 2012.
