Development has resulted in granted requests for polymer fibre inscription training at Aston from universities in Denmark (DTU - Bang), Valencia (Cruz), Valencia (Polytechnic - Sales), Instituto de Telecomunicações, Aveiro (Bilro), Mons (Caucheteur), applying the technology to accelerometers, acoustooptic modulators, biosensing. One trainee now Marie Curie IEF at Aston. Has allowed involvement in FP7 project SAFUEL (200kEuro), seeking to develop avionic fuel sensors and created interest from industry in the plastic grating technology, and led to Aston coordinating Marie Curie ITN project TRIPOD involving companies Medtronic, Ibsen, and Fibermatrix, ranked 1st of >200 Engineering proposals with €700k to Aston.
