A frequency-based RF partial discharge detector for low-power wireless sensing
RF partial discharge monitoring is problematic due to data volume and its effective interpretation. The single sensor detector board including data acquisition and on-board diagnostic algorithms opens the way for effective and flexible condition monitoring in power systems allowing retrofit and easy installation of hardware married to simplified data transfer and analysis. This research, and related activities, complemented National Grid’s Strategic Asset Management project [Carl.Johnstone@nationalgrid.com] and led to co-funding financial support [£150k, 2012-2015] for the National Grid Lecturer post created at Strathclyde [Victoria Catterson, v.m.catterson@strath.ac.uk] to accelerate the uptake of this and associated research within the company.
