Double-weighted statement

This 100,000 word monograph is based on 6 years of research, using a range of archives including the Foundling Museum, London Record Office, Charles Dickens Museum, and Newspapers and Periodical collections of the British Library. Its cumulative argument takes in Dickens’s entire oeuvre, considering 14 novels, Christmas writings, selected letters and journalism. It positions these in relation to other major work of the period –including Tennyson, Eliot, Trollope – and explores Dickens’s queer influences before tracing Dickens’s legacies through the 20thC and up to recent stage and screen adaptations.

Double weighting indicators: scope, complexity of argument, and sustained research period.
