This paper was the output of a project carried out for the Desert Research Institute in Egypt, targeting rural electrification. The result is also relevant to urban wind energy in built environments in developed countries. Following this, Soongsil University of South Korea (Dr Joung-hu Park, whoishe@snu.ac.kr) has committed to collaboration with Ran , with a Technology Evaluation and Planning Grant by the Korea Government Ministry of Knowledge Economy. This allowed the exchange of researchers between the two universities and utilisation of laboratory facilities. Joint research investigated the extension of the work into hybrid wind-PV systems.
