Additional information

This work was performed in collaboration with the leading UK GaN systems group, who work closely with industry and have a spin-off company (CamGaN Sir Colin Humphreys, colin.humphreys@msm.cam.ac.uk). Low room temperature quantum efficiency is a key problem for GaN devices and one solution may be growth on non-polar substrates. My role in this work was to appreciate the link between the defect structure and luminescence which led to new understanding and material design rules.
