Additional information

Detection of transient environmental vibration data is critical when considering the precision of the Watt balance, apparatus used in the new definition of the kilogram SI Unit. A two-stage method for the analysing large numbers of datasets containing measured vibration data is been presented. The research is used in wider metrology applications: software packages for the UK’s national measurement software database all publicly available via NPL; one draft International Standard (ISO) has been proposed for consideration. The research has also been used for the detection and isolation of transition vibration signals in earth orbiting satellites for the European Space Agency.
