Additional information

This work was carried out as a parallel steam of development alongside an iCASE in Automatic Number Plate Recognition (with CitySync) using reconfigurable technology. This publication paved the way for merging two systems in order to improve the ANPR accuracy beyond any single system on its own plus the added advantage of on-the-fly configurability. The FPGA implementation was strategically chosen to allow real-time capture and generation of car chassis wireframe for authentication and validation of number-plate vs car (model/make). This work prompted Hertfordshire Constabulary to sponsor two staff to register for EngD aimed at promoting ongoing field trails.
