Additional information
This essay is part of a project in which Durden seeks to develop new ways of writing photography. Core to this practice is the challenge of trying to bring writing a little closer to its object of study. Rather than starting with the assumption that photography should be read and understood as a kind of writing, as text, he starts from the opposite premise that writing needs to be pushed and developed so that it can both begin to describe and respond to what photography is as a medium and, at the same time, fully respect its difference and distinctiveness.
