Additional information

Aeolian Sound is a series of sound art works exploring aeolian phenomena. The project was supported by an AHRC Fellowship in the Creative and Performing Arts (£232k) and has resulted in a works including:

• A series of Aeolian installations using latex at the audiograft festival (Oxford 2011-2012).

• An installation at the Tempelhof airfield in Berlin (2011) as part of the event: Imaginative Future – acoustic potential in the development of major derelict city spaces that was specifically programmed to make imaginative suggestions as to how wind energised sound might be used to enhance future soundscapes. This programme was part of a major event exploring the sonic potential unleashed by urban redevelopment that was part of Berlin Sonic Spaces supported by UDK Sound Studies and realised by dock e.V. in cooperation with The DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program. There are details here: http://sonic-places.dock-berlin.de/?page_id=18

• A exhibition entitled Aeolian circles featuring aeolian devices developed for Singhur’s reservoir site (http://www.singuhr.de/page.php?ID=440). Eastley developed a series of kinetic objects in the interior of the reservoir and a wind harp in the exterior space. The sounds of the wind harp on the roof of the tower house were transmitted in real-time into the reservoir’s four concentric rings. The brick architecture and the reverberation times that last up to 18 seconds transform the wind-generated sounds into a dense sound texture that seems to move through the rings yet at the same time is contrasted with the concrete sounds of the kinetic objects in the space.

• An installation for Writtle Calling/2 Emma Toc a series of events supported by Resonance 104.4FM celebrating 2MT which was the first regular radio broadcasting station in the UK. Eastley mounted an aeolian device on the structure built for the event. (http://www.writtlecalling.co.uk/writtleCalling_arc.pdf)

There is documentation from all of the above in the portfolio.
