Additional information

This double-blind peer reviewed journal paper reports on the user requirements work conducted within the EU EuroClim project (2001-2005). The project developed a system to automatically analyse and process data based on satellite observations of snow cover, sea ice and glaciers in Northern Europe and the Arctic – regions which are highly sensitive to climate change. The paper considers the specific requirements for the system, contrasting the requirements of specialist and non-specialist users. A prototype system was designed and implemented which demonstrated the process of creating climate change products for download by different scientific, professional and public users. The paper also reviews the approaches applied during this research and suggests future directions for their development. The project partnership included scientific organisations from Norway, Denmark and the UK (Loughborough and Cambridge).
