An image reconstruction method for PET which is in widespread use can lead to errors in some regions of the PET image. This paper reveals not only how this problem can be avoided with a modified approach, but furthermore also demonstrates that in most cases the overall error obtained with the modification is in fact lower than the other popularly chosen reconstruction algorithms. As such, this paper presents a convincing case for a new algorithm of choice in PET imaging.
