Hellenic Whispers: Modes of Greek Literary Influence in Seventeenth-Century French Drama
This very long book entailed extensive, close and complex analysis of inter-related primary sources in a wide range of languages (Greek, Latin, medieval French, Middle High German, and early modern French, Italian, German and Dutch), some of which had to be acquired for the purpose. Many rare texts required protracted visits to specialist libraries (e.g. All Soul's, Oxford; British Library, Manuscript collection; Research Reserve, Bibilothèque Nationale). The argument required intensive textual study of links between sources, including examining variant readings in early modern editions and translations of classical works.
