Additional information

The paper shows emergent measurement technology which is derived from original inter-disciplinary research based on hybrid photonics, dispersive optics and telecommunication technologies. It explores novel/solid optical sensors/ instruments for embedding metrology tools into advanced manufacturing systems/environment (potentially reaching the same level of accuracy as state-of-the-art laboratory-based measurement systems), with affordable manufacturing costs. This is the major part of research sponsored by ERC AdG 117228-Surfund and EPSRC EP/I033424/1. Five PhD students have been sponsored to carry out different experimental sub-systems, two patents have been generated and 10 optical research papers published, three prototype instruments have also been created.
