Significance of output:

This paper provides the first direct in situ measurement of the accumulation of fibre fractures for a high performance composite material under structurally relevant load conditions. This research has created novel fundamental understanding for composite systems commonly used in industry, with support from Luxfer Gas Cylinders (Warren.Hepples@Luxfer.net), Hexcel (Daniel.Ng@hexcel.com) and EPSRC (Grant EP/E003427/1). The data achieved has been made available online for ongoing model development and validation, with potential to inform and validate models and theories used in academia and industry.
