MOCVD of Cd(1−x)Zn(x)S/CdTe PV cells using an ultra-thin absorber layer
These research findings (EPSRC funded PV Supergen ( EP/F029624/1)) revealed the controllability of MOCVD as a deposition technique to reach high conversion efficiencies of ~7% for absorber layer thickness as low as 500 nm. The Zn leaching effect was an unexpected and interesting observation which is currently under investigation to confirm its origin. This development in device performance opened up potential market with semi-transparent PV glazing windows for BIPV and enabled CSER to take part in a collaborative project, at a national level, with SPECIFIC funded by EPSRC and supported by industries including Tata steel and NSG/Pilkington.
