Additional information

Fluctuating wind power may cause power quality problems, such as flickers. This paper described a flicker mitigation method for wind turbines with full-scale back-to-back power converters and Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generators (PMSG). The proposed new controller for flicker mitigation can effectively smooth the 3p active power oscillations result from wind shear and tower shadow by varying the rotational speed of the PMSG. This has the benefit of improving the quality of wind power without extra equipment and cost, and help to reduce the equipment cost for power quality improvement.
