Italian.The volume focuses on the current debate on the role of intellectuals, culture, mass media and cinema during the Fascist regime in Italy. Zagarrio questions the ideological bias that, in recent years, called for an explicit “revisionist” take on fascist culture through scholarly studies, TV programmes and drama series, and feature films. The book traces systematically for the first time the genealogy of this “revised” media representation of the cultural politics of fascism from the 1970s to the 2000s, with particular emphasis on the film industry in the 1930s and a number of individual filmmakers’ and thematic case studies.
