A Bourdieusian analysis of the participation of Polish students in the ERASMUS programme: cultural and social capital perspectives
A Bourdieusian analysis of the participation of Polish students in the ERASMUS programme: cultural and social capital perspectives is an original paper rooted in sociological theory built particularly upon the concepts of social and cultural capital focusing on an under-researched country: Poland. The rigour of the work, originated from a European research project, is that it is based on qualitative data garnered from semi-structured in-depth interviews with ERASMUS agents. The significance of the paper is that it provides a Bourdieusian analysis and understanding of ERASMUS agents’ perceptions of Polish students’ motivation to participate in the programme. In addition, it defines the impact that student participation in the ERASMUS programme, most notably the aspect of studying, training, working and living abroad, has on Polish students’ development of their cultural and social capital, academic achievement and employability in the Polish labour market
