The “online-first” paper (2007) concentrated on the characterisation of statesmen in Diodoros, as relating to the debate on Diodoros’ use of sources, concluding that Diodoros did not “copy” from Ephorus and his inclusion of care for revenues was unique. In 2008 and 2009, further research was undertaken by considering the attitudes of other Greek authors. The new version includes the results of this research (see pages 61-65) and arrives in a new conclusion that Diodoros was clearly influenced by the biographical tradition, hence identifying Diodoros’ understanding of universal history as more encompassing in terms of ideas than historiography.
