This highly cited work was jointly funded by China Scholarship Council (CSC) and Australian Research Council (ARC), and is the first to propose network collaboration in large-scale multiuser networks. The goal is to vastly expand the reach of high-speed broadband coverage while keeping transmission power and operational costs to a minimum. This was N. Yang's first publication during his PhD, and subsequently resulted in 12 IEEE journal papers, all in the area of large-scale collaborative networks. This work has led to an invited talk at the IEEE Australia Communications Theory Workshop (AusCTW), Canberra, Australia, 2010.
