Additional information

This paper proposed a new class of transforms, which is nonlinear but has some excellent properties, such as integer reversibility, in-place computation, low complexity, and most importantly the dynamic range is preserved. These properties significantly improve conventional linear transforms for source coding. Based on this piece of fundamental research output, better nonlinear transforms can be found. The impact in the next generation of image coding techniques is vast, including watermarking as well as audio compression.
