Within the research community, the Barcelona Basic Model (BBM) is the most widely used constitutive model for the mechanical behaviour of unsaturated soils but its wider use by practitioners has been hindered by the difficulty of determining model parameter values from experimental data in a straightforward but rigorous fashion. This paper solved this problem, by presenting a new sequential method of parameter value selection (radically different from those used previously). This will facilitate state-of-the-art numerical modelling of problems involving unsaturated soils by a wider range of practitioners and researchers.
