Multi-site optical excitation using ChR2 and micro-LED array
Part of the Journal’s “Highlights 2010” collection (http://iopscience.iop.org/1741-2552/page/Highlights%202010). The paper presents a powerful tool incorporating a two-dimensional array of micro-LEDs that can generate sophisticated spatiotemporal excitation patterns for the non-invasive optical stimulation of photosensitised neurons. It gives micrometer spatial resolution and millisecond temporal resolution and can be used for the systematic study of neuronal disorders and processes such as neural network dynamics, synaptic summation and dendritic physiology. Part of a series of more than ten journal and conference papers describing research sponsored by EPSRC (EP/F029241/1).
