This paper results from an international collaborative led by Soleimani. The paper presents a new robust image reconstruction in 3D electrical impedance tomography that does not require a priori knowledge of the measurement noise. The work in this paper contributed to the award of an EPSRC Collaborative Computational Project (CCP) grant (£449k EP/J010456/1). A further EPSRC KTA project (£70k, EP/H500103/1) was based on this work for a medical-imaging study for enhancing SPECT imaging for the early detection of dementia.
