Estimating carbon dioxide emissions for aggregate use
Through systematic analysis of a city centre redevelopment programme, this research demonstrates the significance of context when quantifying and optimising emissions. The resulting methodology enables decision-makers to account for the impacts associated with the context within which they are operating. The research thereby represents a significant advancement for the further development of tools already being adopted by practitioners to manage their carbon dioxide emissions, resulting from aggregate (re)use, but which fail to consider context. Funded through £3.2M EPSRC Urban Futures project (EP/F007426/1), including 20 industrial partners, the research was awarded the Trevithick Prize, 2010, by the Institution of Civil Engineers.
