Additional information

The uptake of oxidative biocatalysts in pharmaceutical manufacture has been hindered by long development times. We demonstrate how, using automated microscale technologies, oxidative bioconversions can be designed with a reduced cost and timeframe compared to conventional experimentation. Substrate specificity and product selectivity were demonstrated with previously untested substrates and two novel products synthesized. Successful 90,000-fold scale-up provides confidence in the approach and extends the BiCE impact case study findings to oxidative bioconversions. This work led to new EngD project with Synthace (Dr Markus Gershater, CSO, m.gershater@synthace.com) and to a €10.5M EU-wide collaborations as part of the FP7 BIONEXGEN Project.
