Additional information

This paper presents the first rigorous adaptation of fire science methodologies for wildland fuel flammability, funded by EU (FireParadaox; FP6-018505, €12.6M). This work opens up the systematic study of wildland fuels which have porosity within the range 95-99.8%. This work has enabled new wildfire fire research in Spain (DoI: 10.1177/0734904109102030) and France (DoI: 10.1016/j.firesaf.2010.09.003). This paper led to a joint PhD with the University of Corsica (DoI: 10.1016/j.firesaf.2010.05.002), funded by CNRS. A post-doctoral fellowship was funded by the AXA Research Foundation (http://researchfund.axa.com/project/adam-cowlard).
