Additional information

This study exploited the special characteristics of micro-pixel LEDs to improve insights into the microscopic mechanisms for efficiency droop in III-nitride LEDs, and demonstrated their advantages for solid-state lighting applications deriving from effective current spreading. The carrier recombination mechanisms involved in droop also affect carrier lifetimes, and thus the maximum modulation speed of devices. Therefore the results are relevant to visible light communications, and will guide approaches taken in the £4.6M Institute-led EPSRC Programme Grant [EP/K00042X/1, 2012-2016].
