An analytical model for the vibration of a composite plate containing an embedded periodic shape memory alloy structure
This paper proposes a novel extension to the concept of antagonistic action of shape memory alloy elements. We use the method to decrease the time constant for cooling of active SMA elements fitted to a composite plate, with the result that the plate is more usefully controllable for vibration control. The layout of the SMA elements on the plate is also useful for the reduction of two dimensional plate vibration modes. The work provides an analytical solution for the plate, based on a hybrid Wentsel-Kramers-Brillouin-Galerkin method, whose solutions in the time domain compare favourably with the results of numerical integration.
