Additional information

This paper studies the ballistic behavior of nanocrystalline and ultrafine nanotwinned crystals. This work thoroughly evaluates the ballistic properties of these materials, and propose an optimization based on a hybridization with composite materials. This new material is proven here for the first time to be a potential candidate for personal protection where a low deformation is of drastic importance (e.g. a helmet). This work is the basis of a new collaboration between Oxford, MIT, University Polytechnic of Madrid and City University of Hong-Kong and is under consideration for military funding.
