Additional information

A new interactive environment for evaluation with force and visual feedback that can revolutionise human-computer interaction with a multiple sensory interface is presented. The biomechanical characteristics of the human hand were incorporated within a 3D Finite-Element model and illustrated through case-study simulation. The research led to collaboration with the internationally renowned maxillofacial deformity surgeon Professor Ayoub (Ashraf.Ayoub@glasgow.ac.uk) resulting in the development of the world’s first maxillofacial haptic model. The paper provided a foundation for a highly rated (13/15) Strathclyde led FP7 proposal (Jan’10, Thomas.Mckinlay@ec.europa.eu), and forms the basis for an additional ERC Synergy Grant proposal submission worth €9M (ERC-2013-SyG- 610191).
