Additional information

This paper bridges a gap in utilisation of exploration and resource assessment data: geological investigation centres on mapping drillcores while resource assessment interprets measurement of grades. Companies in Pakistan have found that combining these two types of data using fuzzy logic makes better use of sparse data. A large Pakistani business conglomerate, Engro Corporation Limited (www.engro.com), used the method for reducing uncertainty while evaluating a coal deposit in Pakistan. Separately, a Pakistani government venture exploring the Tanjeel copper deposit in Baluchistan have successfully applied the method and reported monetary savings (contact: Muhammad Dawood, email: dbaloch23@gmail.com).
