Additional information

This paper describes the implementation of a novel fault tolerant controller on a full-motion flight simulator configured to replicate the 1992 EL-AL aircraft crash. This work demonstrated that with an

appropriate auto-pilot, the crash could have been avoided. It is a key output of the GARTEUR AG16 project and describes the demonstration "flight" of the controller by certified test pilots which formed part of the final public workshop (Jan Breeman: breeman@nlr.nl). This work led to an invitation to participate in the FP7 ADDSAFE project (Andres Marcos: andres.marcos@bristol.ac.uk). Invited plenary lectures based on this work were given at SysTol'11 and DPS'13.
