Additional information

This paper is a major output from an EPSRC grant (GR/S70876/01). It presents significant rigorous theoretical results where a novel adaptive law was proposed to identify uncertain parameters. Based on the designed observer, a new fault reconstruction scheme was proposed which has very high accuracy. The results have been applied to a magnetic levitation system to show the potential application perspective of the work. This work has stimulated novel ideas for applying theoretical results to industry and has led to a project awarded by the Royal Academy of Engineering (Ref. 12/13RECI027) to collaborate with Northeastern University, China.
