Additional information

The paper reveals the impact of oxy-fuel combustion on flame characteristics through the application of digital imaging and image processing techniques. The findings have directly contributed to the current knowledge on oxy-combustion with a significant implication on improved combustion efficiency and reduced pollutant emissions. The significance of the results can be verified by industrial collaborators (Corporate Engineer, RWE npower, gerry.riley@rwenpower.com). The findings formed the basis for two EPSRC grants relating to oxy-fuel combustion (EP/G062153/1 and EP/G063214/1). The work also resulted in Lu being appointed as Guest Professor at North China Electrical Power University, China.
