This paper was based on an EU FP Integrated Project “3D Face” (3dface.org) to develop the next generation of 3D Face Recognition systems suitable for unattended access control. The novel approach for information fusion suggested in this paper, based on the optimal selection of decision thresholds for each information channel before decision-level fusion, was taken up in the design of demonstrator systems that were trialled at Berlin and Salzburg airports (contact Mr A Nouak, Fraunhofer IGD, Darmstadt, alexander.nouak@igd.fraunhofer.de).
