Additional information

The extraction of phase derivative data from fringes is important in automatic inspection, profileometry and non-destructive testing for numerous industries and research fields. This paper presents novel algorithms, which are shown to significantly improve the speed and accuracy of data from the Continuous Wavelet Transform method and applies them to the analysis of refractive index profiles in glass. It has resulted in contacts with and index measurements for Dr R R Thomson (R.R.Thomson@hw.ac.uk) from Heriot Watt University whose group manufactures waveguides by laser inscription.
