Additional information

The need to accelerate fermentation process development has focused much attention onto the design and application of miniaturised bioreactors (MBR). This work demonstrates the feasibility of scaling down industrial high cell density fermentations on the basis of specific power input and indicates the potential of direct scale-up from miniaturised to large scale bioreactors thereby shortening process development times. Furthermore, we show that the combined use of the MBR with ultra scale-down centrifugation provides an efficient way to design and develop bioprocesses with good upstream performance and downstream manufacturability. This work helped to underpin the USD Technologies impact case study.
