Additional information

<24> This paper investigates the relationship between embodied interaction and symbolic communication by using embodied artificial agents. It is the outcome of a lasting collaboration between Marocco and Japanese colleagues from Tokyo University. This collaboration has attracted University of Plymouth funds to Marocco for the organisation of an international workshop on the emergence of communication and for exchanging research visits in UK and Japan. This paper also led to the development of the Wall Game method in linguistics, which is a new experimental methodology for studies on the emergence of communication in humans.
