Additional information

The scientific and technological work in this paper on the joining of silicon to borosilicate glass rods has underpinned a number of microsystem technologies developed by the collaborating group in the University of Twente since 2009. These developments are described in a number of publications from this group which cite this paper. The paper is also cited in an award-winning review of microfluidic immunoassays [Lin et al., JALA 15(2010)253] in connection with advancements in the manufacturing of suitable microfluidic devices for immunoassays.
