Additional information

This paper investigates the applicability and practicality of using Soil Aquifer Treatment (SAT) in treating poorly treated wastewater effluents or even primary effluents for which there is a limited work. Furthermore, this study for the first time explores the complete reliance on the saturated zone without utilisation of the vadose zone in the treatment. It was uniquely found that the first 100 mm of the saturated soil was responsible for most of the removal or transformation of the wastewater parameters that occurred under all experimental conditions investigated. The results pave the way for future application of SAT in saturated grounds.
