The method presented overcomes the difficulties of obtaining robust estimates of relative speed and orientation between mobile devices in ad-hoc mobile wireless networks in difficult environments using a GPS-free estimation. The range-based relative speed estimator has been patented (GB2008/002058; http://patentscope.wipo.int/search/en/WO2008152410). The work was funded as part of an EU grant (BIOPATTERN, Contract no.: 508803) and created a basis for collaboration with Motorola.
