Additional information

An analytical solution is developed in this paper for circular tunnel excavation with two liners in viscoelastic surrounding rock under hydrostatic initial stress fields. It provides engineering insight into this problem on the influence of excavation time, supporting time, and the rheological properties of surrounding rock. It is expected to benefit industry because it provides a much quicker way to estimate the stress build-up and dissipation as a result of interaction between rheological bed rock, 1st layer and 2nd layer of liners; therefore it is possible to systematically compare the influence of construction sequence to the final stress condition.
