Additional information

The authors coined the term inverse Tone Mapping Operators (iTMOs) in an earlier paper. This term is now regularly used by all other related research groups internationally. This paper was the first to do a detailed evaluation of iTMOs. These results have informed the community which is the most appropriate iTMO to use depending on the type of scene being considered. The outcomes led to European patent no. 2144444 “HDR video data compression devices and methods” and the spin out of goHDR Ltd (www.gohdr.com). In July 2013 goHDR was invited by NASA to film a rocket launch in HDR.
