Additional information

The rotating spiral contactor is a novel concept developed within the Department for which the University was granted a European patent (EP 1703970 B), and which has been demonstrated to offer significant potential for fluid separations at the micro-scale. It offers unique potential for compact, low inventory and rapid mass transfer operations, including potential for operation in a gravity-free environment. This paper develops an analytical theory that extends prediction of behaviour up to the larger mm scale. This has enabled production of an optimised prototype device, which is planned to lead to the first generation of practical devices.
